Honey to earn Nigeria $10bn

Mr. David Musa, the Team Leader, USAID Bee Keeping Pollination Project, says Nigeria can generate over 10 billion dollars from local and international trade in honey and other hive products. Musa disclosed this during an interview on the sideline of a Capacity Building Workshop for bee-farmers in Goshen, Nasarawa State on Thursday.

“Honey trade can generate up to 10 billion dollars if you look at cumulative values from honey and other hive products and the value of pollination,” he said.

Dangote reacts to northern quit notice to Ndigbo

Africa’s richest man and Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has condemned the recent quit notice given to Nigerians of Igbo extraction by some northern youths to leave the region before October 1st or face physical attacks.

 Alhaji Dangote, while condemning the hate speech against Ndigbo queried why such jobless youths were given relevance in the first place through reactions from well-meaning Nigerians.

The business mogul said, those youths were jobless and as such, only sought for relevance through threat.

According to him, “Some guys who have no relevance and values came out to issue a warning that Igbo should leave the North.

Venezuela Supreme Court attacked from helicopter


A police helicopter has dropped grenades on Venezuela's Supreme Court building and fired shots at the interior ministry in what President Nicolas Maduro called a "terror attack" against his government.

Information minister Ernesto Villegas said the stolen helicopter first fired 15 shots on the ministry in Caracas, the capital, as a reception was taking place on Tuesday.

It then flew a short distance to the Supreme Court building and dropped four grenades, two of them near the national guardsmen protecting the building.

Maduro said no one was injured as the grenades failed to detonate during the incident.

Insurgency: Cameroon repatriates 887 Nigerian refugees

About 887 Nigerian refugees from Cameroon on Tuesday arrived in Banki, Borno following a request from the Cameroonian government to Nigeria to facilitate their return.

Mr Hanson Tamfu, the External Relations Officer, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Nigeria, made known in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

Tamfu said that the request was prompted by fear and suspicions of the Cameroonian authorities that among the refugees might include some elements of Boko Haram.

A 22-year-old Nigerian woman attempting to migrate into Europe via the harsh Sahara Desert survived after being abandoned by traffickers for 10 days.

The International Organisation for Migration said the woman, given the nickname Adoara, was the only female among the survivors of a rescue mission on May 28.

“She left Nigeria in early April hoping for a better future in Europe.

Amputee pastor fetes with 50 physically challenged in Nsukka

AN amputee pastor, Rev. Jude Uchechukwu of the World Liberation Assembly has proved that there is ability in disability even as he played host to about 50 physically challenged persons in the university town of Nsukka, Enugu State. He opined that the physical challenged persons should not hong on begging at motor parks or the streets.

Rev. Jude made the assertion during the assemblage of physically challenged persons in Nsukka organised by the World Liberation Assembly (aka House of Liberty), explaining that the society should as a matter of necessity see and treat the disabled persons as equal human beings who could be offered good jobs irrespective of their disability, acquire skills in hair dressing, shoe making, soap and  beads – making among others to eke out a means of livelihood than begging for alms at motor parks and streets of the country.

Man abducts, exchanges 10-yr-old boy for 3 bags of rice



LAGOS—An unidentified middleaged man abducted a 10-year-old boy, who was on an errand for his mother, and exchanged him for three bags of rice in Ijegun area of Lagos.

The suspect, now on the run, reportedly accosted the victim (names withheld), weekend, at Prince Bus Stop, Isheri Oshun, while on the errand for his mother.

 He was said to have introduced himself to the unsuspecting boy as a relative.

Multiple suicide bomb attacks kill 16 in Borno


More than 16 persons were killed after a coordinated suicide bombings at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) and Zannari Community in Maiduguri on Sunday night. An eyewitnesses told the Newsmen in Maiduguri that the bombing started around 10p.m “The noise of the explosion coming from the university woke us up from the sleep around 10p.m. “Few minutes after, the explosion spread to other parts of the town, especially around London Ciki,” Malam Usman Chiroma, a resident of Mairi near the university said.

Lagos—Parents of the six abducted Senior Secondary School students of Lagos state Model College, Igbonla, Epe, were weekend, elated when rumours that their children would be released by midnight Saturday, filtered in.

Vanguard gathered that they waited patiently, without winking, from 11pm Saturday till 6am Sunday. But they were crestfallen when nothing was heard either from the kidnappers, their children or the person that reportedly informed them of the students’ possible release.

Increase in females abusing drugs in Yobe, worrisome – NDLEA Commander

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Yobe has described as ‘worrisome’ increase in number of females abusing drugs in the state.

Commander of the agency in the state, Mr Apeh Reuben, told the Newsmen in Damaturu on Monday that young girls between the ages of 15 and 35 were increasingly involved in drugs consumption and abuse.
